The Classsification of the Divine & Non-Divine Attributes:
Verses 23 – 24

Discussion Themes: 

• THERE IS a science to everything, even to tying your shoelaces, and in the ‘higher dimensions of life, a spiritual science is to be followed.’ The scriptures provide the guide and methods to smoothly proceed on the path to perfection.

• SCRIPTURES are of two types. The higher type are based on eternal, divine truths revealed to the saints and mystics. The lower scriptures are ‘human-composed’ ones, relating more to societal rules and standards, but are – and should – be subject to change, to adapt to an ever-changing world.

• CAN THERE BE such a thing as ‘Spiritual Democracy’? If a society is stable, governed well, politically, socially and economically healthy, then people have the opportunity to pursue higher ideals, to expand their outlook, to foster ‘mutuality and interdependence’, and to grow spiritually. A utopic view, no doubt, but humanity at its best can reach it.

We’re dipping into Swami Ranganathananda’s 3 volume commentary: Universal Message of the Bhagavad Gita. The late President of the Ramakrishna Order, the Swami was a world thinker and cultural ambassador for India, sponsored by the Government to travel to over 50 countries around the world giving lectures.
