• From Clutter to Peace: We are blessed with comforts, facilities and opportunities beyond the reach and dreams of our ancestors. They lived in a simpler world, their lives mapped out along predictable routes. We live in an age of unlimited opportunities and choices. But all these options mean we are compelled to make more decisions and to have more thoughts passing through our minds. The average adult makes from 33,000 to 35,000 decisions a day. Even more astonishing, the average adult’s mind is flooded with over 60,000 thoughts daily, leading to an often cluttered, pressured, and confused mind. We need to go from clutter to peace.
  • From Clutter to Peace – Marie Kondo: Marie Kondo – the declutter queen – says that the Shinto religion partly inspires her method. Cleaning and organizing things properly can be a spiritual practice in Shintoism, conserving the energy or divine spirit of things (kami) and the right way to live (kannagara). Through decluttering our lives, we clear the way to greater peace. Marie Kondo’s tips for decluttering can also help us declutter our minds, heart and soul.
  • Keep only those things that speak to your heart. Then take the plunge and discard all the rest. By doing this, you can reset your life and embark on a new lifestyle.
  • Have gratitude for the things you’re discarding. By giving gratitude, you’re giving closure to the relationship with that object, and by doing so, it becomes a lot easier to let go.
  • Attachment to the past and fears concerning the future not only govern the way you select things you own but also represent the criteria by which you make choices in every aspect of your life, including your relationships with people and your job.
  • The process of facing and selecting our possessions can be quite painful. It forces us to confront our imperfections and inadequacies and the foolish
choices we made in the past.
  • It’s important to understand your ownership pattern because it is an expression of the values that guide your life. The question of what you want to own is actually the question of how you want to live your life.
  • People cannot change their tidying habits without first changing their way of thinking.
