SUMMARY:Bhagavad Gita Class/ Discussion
DESCRIPTION:From 7 pm at Vedanta Hall for Meditation\nOR From 7.30 pm join via    ZOOM (Link)\n\nGroup discussion led by Pravrajika Sridharaprana\, a senior nun of Sri Sarada Math of the Ramakrishna Order. \nStudy of Chapter 17 Continues: Three Kinds of Faith:Verses 8 – 10\nDiscussion Themes:  \n\n\nTHE THREE TYPES OF FOOD: To live a more spiritual life\, we are encouraged to pay attention to what we take in. The sounds and images we experience\, the words we read\, and the people we spend time with all shape our thoughts\, emotions\, and the energy we give off. \n\n\nWHILE BEING alert to all these\, we should also be aware of the quality of the food we consume. In our younger years\, with roaring digestion and boundless energy and appetite\, we’re more interested in quantity than quality of food entering our mouths. But as we mature\, physically and spiritually\, we’re compelled to seek out food that sustains our physical health. In verses 8-10 of chapter 17 of the Gita\, food quality is classified according to the three Gunas. Sattva: Purity\, Rajas: Passion\, Tamas: Inertia. \n\n\nSATTVIC FOOD: the purest food ‘augments vitality\, energy\, strength\, health and cheerfulness ‘. Rajasic foods are ‘bitter\, sour\, saline\, excessively hot\, pungent\, dry\, and burning’. Tamasic foods are ‘stale\, tasteless\, stinking\, cooked overnight\, refuse\, and impure’. \n\n\nTHE BASIC RULES for eating wholesome Sattvic food are simple and can benefit everyone. By choosing fresh\, unprocessed foods and staying active\, we can build a healthy mind and body to handle whatever life brings. \n\n\nSLOW FOOD MOVEMENT: Another option is to join the ‘slow food movement’\, started by Carlo Petrini in Italy in 1986. This movement stands against fast food and a rushed lifestyle. It supports healthy\, seasonal food produced cleanly\, fair prices for growers\, the preservation of food traditions and farming methods\, and local businesses. \n\n\nLearn more in the Discussion \nBhagavad Gita: \nWe’re exploring a spiritual classic that’s enriched cultures throughout Asia over the centuries and inspired leading figures in modern times from Mohandas Gandhi\, Albert Einstein\, Carl Jung\, and Aldous Huxley to astronaut Sunita Williams who took a copy of the Bhagavad Gita to the international space station. \nWe’re dipping into Swami Ranganathananda’s 3 volume commentary: Universal Message of the Bhagavad Gita. The late President of the Ramakrishna Order\, the Swami was a world thinker and cultural ambassador for India\, sponsored by the Government to travel to over 50 countries around the world giving lectures.

SUMMARY:Spiritual Evening: The Science of Happiness
DESCRIPTION:From 7 pm at Vedanta Hall for MeditationOR From 7.30 pm join via  ZOOM (Link)\nGroup discussion led by Pravrajika Sridharaprana\, a senior nun of Sri Sarada Math of the Ramakrishna Order. \nDiscussion Themes:\nSo many factors contribute to our happiness and general state of mind but given the fickleness of the external world\, inner happiness is our only reliable source for a steady path through life. Learn more in the regular discussions: \n\nNIRVANASHATAKAM: •We reflect on the famous hymn Nirvanashatakam\, the classic verse on non-duality\, providing essential insights into our path to meditation: ‘I am not the mind\, intellect\, ego or the memory; I am not the ears\, the tongue\, the skin\, the nose or the eyes. I am not the space\, not earth\, not fire\, water or wind. I am the form of consciousness and bliss. I am the eternal Shiva.’\nThe Great Sayings: We study the Mahavakyas – great sayings from the Upanishads that declare our body\, mind and soul\, our comings and goings\, our births and rebirths\, are ultimately just a dream. We are ever-free.\nCapturing our True Essence: We learn about Vidyas (archetypes leading to a knowledge of ultimate reality) and other techniques to enhance our concentration and focus. \n\nTeachings \nJoin the Discussion \nDrawing on the book: Science of Happiness –According to Yoga Vedanta by Pravrajika Divyanandaprana: a compilation of her talks given to students at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi in 2018 \nPravrajika Divyananandaprana is a nun of Sri Sarada Math of the Ramakrishna Order. Thousands view her talks on YouTube. \nOur discussions tap into the wisdom of major world faiths and thinkers relating them to our daily life. You’re welcome to share your insights\, experiences\, and doubts with the group. \nFor more details about us and our activities visit: Vedanta Society of NSW Website: Website

SUMMARY:Yoga Sutras - Monthly Lecture Series
DESCRIPTION:Yoga Sutras\nA Monthly Lecture Series\n  \nTalk By Pravrajika Gayatriprana & Guided Meditation\nZoom link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88434388900 \n \nAt Vedanta Hall  (open from 10.30 am for Meditation) \nIn this Talk:\nIn this Talk: \nPower of God’s Name \nEvery idea has a corresponding sound symbol. The same idea may have several different sound symbols. Similarly\, the idea of God is associated with innumerable sound symbols\, with the sound symbol Om or Pranava\, the best\, according to Patanjali. \nWe are asked to repeat the name of God as a spiritual practice. What is the use of mere repetition of a word? What do you gain? According to Patanjali\,\, repetition of Om or any other name of God\, with the mind concentrated on the meaning\, leads the mind ever inward\, gradually removing all obstacles to the spiritual path. \n  \nGuided Meditation: Self Enquiry \nIn this guided meditation we dip into the Advaitic Vedanta path of Self-enquiry (atma-vichara). This path poses the classic question: “Who Am I?” It’s takes us from the seen to the seer\, to the real you\, to the subjective feeling of pure existence. \nLearn more in the talk \nFor  more details about   us and our activities visit:  Vedanta   Society of NSW Website: Website
