SUMMARY:Yoga Sutras - Monthly Lecture Series
DESCRIPTION:Yoga Sutras\nA Monthly Lecture Series\n  \nTalk By Pravrajika Gayatriprana & Guided Meditation\nZoom link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88434388900 \n \nAt Vedanta Hall  (open from 10.30 am for Meditation) \nIn this Talk:\nIn this Talk: \nPower of God’s Name \nEvery idea has a corresponding sound symbol. The same idea may have several different sound symbols. Similarly\, the idea of God is associated with innumerable sound symbols\, with the sound symbol Om or Pranava\, the best\, according to Patanjali. \nWe are asked to repeat the name of God as a spiritual practice. What is the use of mere repetition of a word? What do you gain? According to Patanjali\,\, repetition of Om or any other name of God\, with the mind concentrated on the meaning\, leads the mind ever inward\, gradually removing all obstacles to the spiritual path. \n  \nGuided Meditation: Self Enquiry \nIn this guided meditation we dip into the Advaitic Vedanta path of Self-enquiry (atma-vichara). This path poses the classic question: “Who Am I?” It’s takes us from the seen to the seer\, to the real you\, to the subjective feeling of pure existence. \nLearn more in the talk \nFor  more details about   us and our activities visit:  Vedanta   Society of NSW Website: Website

SUMMARY:Bhagavad Gita Class/ Discussion
DESCRIPTION:From 7 pm at Vedanta Hall for Meditation\nOR From 7.30 pm join via    ZOOM (Link)\n\nGroup discussion led by Pravrajika Sridharaprana\, a senior nun of Sri Sarada Math of the Ramakrishna Order. \nStudy of Chapter 17 Continues: Three Kinds of Faith:Verses 11 – 15\nDiscussion Themes:  \n\n\nTYPES OF WORSHIP: For some people worship and prayers are reduced to a bargaining exercise with the Gods. Promising to be good\, they pray to pass that exam\, to get that job\, to win that heart\, to gain that wealth. \nA legendary prayer\, dripping in calculation\, requests God to bless us that they we may ‘eat well from golden plates with our grandchildren’. Eating well means that into their old age they have good health. Grandchildren mean their children are happily married\, that the family lineage continues\, and the gold plates ensure there is prosperity\, too! Then again\, some make a great show of their piety through pompous\, public displays of their worship. The superior form of worship\, the Gita declares\, is that which is performed seeking nothing more than peace and devotion.   \n\n\nGOOD SPEECH: How careful we must be when we speak. Words are powerful. Our words can live on in the minds and emotions of our family\, friends and workmates. The quality – and quantity too – of our words reveal to others what type of mind and personality we have. The Gita advocates that we should only speak what is true\, but avoid speaking a harsh truth. Often silence is better than speech! \n\n\nLearn more in the Discussion \nBhagavad Gita: \nWe’re exploring a spiritual classic that’s enriched cultures throughout Asia over the centuries and inspired leading figures in modern times from Mohandas Gandhi\, Albert Einstein\, Carl Jung\, and Aldous Huxley to astronaut Sunita Williams who took a copy of the Bhagavad Gita to the international space station. \nWe’re dipping into Swami Ranganathananda’s 3 volume commentary: Universal Message of the Bhagavad Gita. The late President of the Ramakrishna Order\, the Swami was a world thinker and cultural ambassador for India\, sponsored by the Government to travel to over 50 countries around the world giving lectures.

SUMMARY:Sunday Talk: Correct Way of Seeing Things
DESCRIPTION:At Vedanta Hall  (open from 10.30 am for Meditation)or join via Zoom for talk at 11am: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88434388900\nTalk By Pravrajika Gayatriprana\nGuided Meditation by Robert Grant\n \nIn this Talk:\nVEDANTA asserts that the universe is not a separate entity but a mere appearance within the underlying universal Consciousness or Brahman. It is like the city reflected in a mirror and hence is not an independent reality. \nAppearance does not affect reality. We may see a building collapse reflected in a mirror\, but the mirror remains unaffected and undamaged. \nWhen we see correctly\, we no longer think of ourselves as the doer. We recognize we’re mere witnesses\, ultimately beyond the happenings in this world. We no longer identify with the body and mind\, and with the endless procession of emotions and thoughts arising in us. \nThe sages urge us to cultivate this correct vision\, the witness consciousness\, through the threefold exercise of Sravanam (listening)\, Mananam (reflection) and Nididhyasanam (contemplation). \n  \nGuided Meditation: Grounded as a Mountain \nTHROUGHOUT humanity’s history\, mountains have been sacred homes for mystics and yogis\, awe-inspiring\, rejuvenating havens for the world-weary. \nThrough this guided meditation\, we will seek to  be as still as a mountain\, to feel the steadiness\, strength\, and peace that  mountains embody \n’ \nLearn more in the talk this Sunday.
